The Rising Star: Danielle Carr

Danielle Carr is a rising star in the community and among the Florida Southern Campus. She has not only exemplified excellence in academics but also in leadership.

Last year alone, Carr racked in five awards from the schools award assembly. Receiving Best RA Program, Outstanding Sophomore of the Year, Outstanding SGA Senator, and two other scholarship awards.

Carr is currently the President and Director of Up 'Till Dawn, an organization to help children fight cancer.

“I like to help out and serve my community the best way I can. Carr said. I think it is very important for young adults to get involved because we are the future.”

This year Carr is working hard while double majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish. She is currently the SGA Vice President, a leader in ODK the honors society on campus, and a part of the American Chemical Society.

With all the organization Carr is involved with she finds it hard to balance time with family and friends.

“It’s hard to balance my time, I have a 4.0 GPA and I’m always either studying or sending out emails for an up coming event. Carr Said. I try to go out and hangout with my Zeta Tau Alpha Sisters as much as I can.”

This past summer Carr was involved in many different experiences and didn’t have time to go home to see her family. She traveled to Spain on the study abroad trip. She also traveled to North Carolina to help out with a program called Duke Tip. While at Duke she helped teach a chemistry class for privileged students in High school.

“Duke Tip was such a fun experience, Carr said. I met so many interesting people and it was fun and challenging to teach teenagers a about chemistry.”

Carr continues to work hard in her studies and in her leadership roles. She is also planning on graduating early in the 2011 Fall Semester.

1) I enjoyed so much about this trip! What I did enjoy was getting to know everyone and seeing all the sights. Its great to experience sights with people that you have grown close with.

2) I didn't enjoy the food... I really missed eating a good salad!

3) What I suggest for next year, I think that florida southern should book the hotels because the hotel in Bath was very nice but the other ones were not so great.

4) I suggest students should make the most out the trip. Have fun and meet people, dont be afraid to talk to others its cool to learn about the different cultures. Students should make sure and bring comfy shoes and warm clothes.

I had a great time on the trip and I would love to do it again!

Good-bye England... Hello AMERICA!

Good-bye England…Hello AMERICA! June 4

This morning I woke up early for the last time… I am sleeping in when I get to my bed. I packed my cloths last night so I wouldn’t have to worry about packing early in the morning. We made our way outside with our luggage and said good-bye to our new friend J. J was an awesome guy who worked at the hotel. The hotel was gross but the people that worked there were so cool!  I will miss J a lot. We traveled to the airport on the bu. I will not be missing the bus I can’t wait to drive in my car and not have to take a bus. The check in process was a lot easier then it was in the USA. Security, however, was awful! I had to stand in line for 20 minutes and then on top of waiting forever, they had to go through and check my bag.  I finally got through security and Dani and I went to Costa and got our last cup of Costa coffee. Im going to miss Costa I loved their coffee. We then boarded the plane and were lucky enough to get our own row.  Dani, of coarse passed out within three seconds of the plan ride but I stayed up the whole time. I couldn’t fall asleep. When we landed there was a big sigh of relief to finally be home. Everyone chanted America. It was very funny. We went through custom and my guy said welcome home! I was very excited to get bags, get on the bus, and drive to my condo. Unfortunately, the bus didn’t come for two hours because someone told them the wrong date. It was very frustrating, but we made it to Florida southern. Dani and I then got my car and we drove to my condo to spend the night. It was a very long day, but im glad to be home.

Touring London... Jeff style

Touring London…Jeff style. May 31

This morning we all got up early, once again, and headed over to St. Paul’s cathedral for mass. It was a beautiful cathedral and mass was awesome! I’m so glad I went and experienced that.  That was one of the things I really wanted to do while I was in London. After mass we went back to our hotel to change and Jeff told us he was going to take Dani and I on a tour of London. We hopped on the train and went and saw Big Ben. I absolutely loved Big Ben it was around 4:00 so we all got to hear the bells from Big Ben. I took a ton of pictures! After that we saw parliament, and the London eye. We also saw Buckiem Palace! I was so excited to see the palace I have always wanted to see it! Jeff did an awesome job as a tour guide for Dani and I, he answered every question we had and he took us to all the right spots. Im glad I got my tourist stuff out of the way.

High Tea at Harrods

High Tea at Harrods May 29

Yes darling… we had high tea at Harrods. This was such a great experience I loved every minuet of it! Dani, Courtney and I got up early this morning, just like every other morning. I feel like I never get to sleep in, which is a shame because I love sleeping in. Anyways, we got up and hopped on the train and headed over to the wonderful Harrods. It is an awesome place it has everything! Prada, Burberry, Gucci. You name it and they have it. As we walked into the store my mouth was drooling. I wanted everything in that store! We ended up going to the gift shop to get our parents some little souvenirs; I think my mom will enjoy the Harrods bag I got her. Are Teatime was at 3 30 and we were all so excited. We went up to the top floor and it was so beautiful. We were seated at an elegant table and there was a man playing the piano. A man came over and waited on us, every time our drink or sandwiches were empty they would come right away and refill them. The tea was very good and the scones were delicious. It was such a lovely afternoon!  I can’t wait to come back and do it again someday.
